Stanford’s on-site milling program transforms fallen limbs into campus benches and student art–providing the campus community a sustainable alternative to imported lumber.
New Student Orientation volunteers served as “bin monitors” during move-in day, engaging over 1,700 new students and their families on how to recycle and compost at Stanford. While all incoming students are required to take the online waste reduction training as part of their orientation, the friendly reminder at the bin reinforces that knowledge and helps normalize responsible waste sorting – a key to building a culture of waste reduction and achieving the university’s zero waste goals.
