Stanford’s commitment to sustainability in land use, campus master planning, and management of our built and natural environment receive the following notable recognitions. In addition to those listed below, the Central Energy Facility has received numerous awards and accolades for its design and construction.

Buildings

• Best Practice Award for Overall Sustainable Design, for Stanford Redwood City from the California Higher Education Sustainability Conference (CHESC) (2019)
• LEED for Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance Platinum certification, for Jerry Yang and Akiko Yamazaki Environment and Energy Building (Y2E2). The first large-scale high-performance building at Stanford, Y2E2 received the highest rating awarded by the US Green Building Council. (2013)
• Finalist, Green Enterprise IT Awards, Uptime Institute, for a case study of server consolidation at the Clark Center, one of the top five energy-consuming buildings on campus. The Clark Center IT group relocated servers from Clark, where research space is at a premium, to a new centralized data center, where servers can operate at much higher efficiencies. (2013)
• First Place, ASHRAE Technology Award, for the Environment and Energy Building (Y2E2) in the new institutional building category (2011)
• Design Award of Excellence, for Stanford Law School, William H. Neukom Building, Society of American Registered Architects (2011)
• Green Project of the Year, for the Graduate School of Business’ Knight Management Center, Silicon Valley Business Journal (2010)
• Best Green Building in the Bay Area, for Yang and Yamazaki Environment + Energy Building (Y2E2), San Francisco Business Times (2008)

• 2013 Tree Campus USA recognition, Arbor Day Foundation, for promoting healthy trees and engaging students and staff in the spirit of conservation (2013)
• Certificate of Recognition, for the student group SEEDS and its work to protect the fragile environment around Lagunita, Ecological Society of America (2012)
• Merit Award, with Boora Architects, for the Science and Engineering Quad, Planning for a District or Campus Component, Society for College and University Planning (2010)
• Preservation Design Award, for the Stanford Arizona Garden, California Preservation Foundation (2008)
• Site Design for Storm Water Pollution Prevention, Santa Clara Valley Urban Runoff Pollution Prevention Program (2007)
• Governor’s Historic Preservation Award, for faculty houses project in the historic houses project category, State of California (2007)
• Community Partnership Award, for oak tree planting for the second hundred years, California State Senate (2006)
• Special Recognition, for oak reforestation project partnership, US Congress (2006) The project also received commendations from the State Assembly and Senate, and San Mateo and Santa Clara counties.
