East Campus Stormwater Capture

Stanford has begun operating a new stormwater capture system in the Matadero Creek watershed. The fields near El Camino Real and Serra Street act not only as a recreation area, but also as a giant stormwater detention basin. Excess stormwater is collected during rain events, rather than overwhelming the local creeks with runoff. Once the stormwater is collected, it is filtered and pumped to Felt Lake and later used for irrigation of the campus. Stormwater capture facilities are just one of the many different types of stormwater facilities that are installed on campus.
