Stanford’s award-winning climate actions and energy efficiency received the following notable recognitions:

  • Climate Registry Platinum and Water Energy Leader Platinum, The Climate Registry (2021)
  • Best Practice Award for Energy Efficiency and Sustainability, for Smart Direct Digital Controls (DDC) Upgrade, California Higher Education Sustainability Conference (CHESC) (2020)
  • Electric Product Environmental Assessment Tool Award, Green Electronics Council (2019)
  • Pac-12 Champion, EPA’s Green Power Challenge (2019)
  • College and University Green Power Challenge Champion, Pac-12 Division, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (2018)
  • Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT) Award, Green Electronics Council (2018)
  • Best Practice Award, California Higher Education Sustainability Conference,  for the Sustainable IT program (2018)
  • Commercial Real Estate Digital Innovation Award, Realcomm, also known as the “Digie Award,” received for going above and beyond to positively impact the real estate management industry through the use of technology, automation, and innovation (2015 and 2016)
  • Honorable Mention, ASHRAE Technology Award, for the Stauffer Building I laboratory VAV conversion project in the existing institutional building category (2010)
  • 1st Place, 2008-2009 ASHRAE X Technology Award for the Stauffer Chemistry Building HVAC retrofit project
  • Honorable Mention, Flex Your Power Awards (2005)

The Stanford Energy System Innovations (SESI) project encompassed updates to more than 155 buildings on campus, and transformed the energy supply from one based on fossil fuels to an electrically-powered heat recovery system.
