How to Find and Fix Leaks in Irrigation Systems

This class shows participants how to find and fix leaks in irrigation systems. Attendees will learn common sources of leaks, like broken pipes and fittings, and offers troubleshooting tips for using water more efficiently. By the end of the class, participants will have the skills and knowledge to take care of their irrigation systems, minimize water waste, and improve the overall health of their gardens.

Aspen Spring Sustainability Festival

Celebrate Earth Day at Aspen’s Spring Sustainability Festival! Enjoy catered hors d’oeuvres and beverages, create your own flower bouquets and crowns, explore reusable merch, and experience live student performances. Educational displays will highlight ways to protect our environment, inspiring action and awareness. To support our goal of reducing waste, we encourage you to bring reusable plates, to-go containers, and water bottles. While we will provide limited compostable cups and containers, minimizing single-use items is a key focus of this program.

Waste Sorting 101 – Reduce Your Waste

Looking for a refresher on what goes where on campus? Get your recycling questions answered and get a behind-the-scenes look at what happens to our materials after they leave campus – answering the question, “Do my recyclables actually get recycled?”
You will leave with new tools that demystify recycling and composting and gain a new sense of empowerment to contribute to our sustainable community. Plus, staff will earn 2,000 points towards their BeWell incentive!

Screening of "Life & Debt" (EJ Film Fest @ Stanford)

A film about the impact of the International Monetary Fund's global economic policies on a developing nation's economy & agriculture. this film takes an unapologetic look at the new world order from the point of view of Jamaican workers, farmers and government officials. ​This screening will include free food, interactive activities, and a panel discussion with guests from the African Film Festival, the film crew, and voices from our Stanford community.

Screening of "Inhabitants: An Indigenous Perspective" (EJ Film Fest @ Stanford)

A feature documentary that follows five Native American Tribes across deserts, coastlines, forests, and prairies as they restore their traditional land management practices. This screening will include free food, interactive activities, and climate change conversations with members of the Stanford community.

Celebrating Sustainability: 10th Anniversary of Stanford Energy System Operations

Kick off Earth Month by celebrating sustainable energy! This public event is an excellent opportunity to drop in during the event hours to do a hotspot tour of Stanford's world-known Central Energy Facility which has reduced campus greenhouse gas emissions by 80%!

Earth Month Fair

This event will focus on Sustainable Transportation and promote alternatives to driving alone for commuting to/from Stanford Research Park (i.e., transit, vanpooling, carpooling, bicycling, walking). Info booths will be staffed by reps from: Caltrain, VTA, AC Transit, Commute with Enterprise, Stanford Research Park Transportation, Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition.

Rooted Words

Rooted Words is a group participation reading event, open to all. Bring a short selection (5 minutes or less) of your own writing in any genre, fiction or nonfiction, poetry or prose, new or old, well-polished or in-process or half-baked and stalled out. All contributions are welcomed, all efforts celebrated, just coming to listen is also fine. Snacks and beverages provided, and your pot-luck contributions are always appreciated. We usually socialize for the first half hour, and then start the readings and go until there's nothing left to say. Dress warmly, the farm gets cold when the sun goes down! We meet once a quarter, Fall, Winter and Spring, at 5:30 on the Wednesday of Week Five.

Screening of "Mikuba (Cobalt)" (EJ Film Fest @ Stanford)

Mikuba takes us deep into the cobalt veins of Kolwezi, the beating heart of the world’s cobalt supply, where the battle for a sustainable green energy future is fought in dust and heat. This global race to secure the essential element powering electric vehicles and renewable energy puts immense pressure on the land and its people. Amid this scramble, the film reveals the lives of local custodians – artisanal and small-scale miners – who stand resolute as the guardians of ancestral wealth and wisdom.Stay after the screening for an in‑depth conversation with director Mwalimu Ndaliko Katondolo, grassroots leader Samuel Yagase, and Friends of the Congo co‑founder Maurice Carney.

When a massive Thirty Meter Telescope is proposed to be built on Mauna Kea, an uprising of kiaʻi (protectors) in Hawaiʻi and around the world dedicate their lives to protecting the sacred mountain from further destruction. This screening will include free food, interactive activities, panel discussion with the filmmakers, and climate change conversations with members of the Stanford community.
