Presentation for the Office of Sustainability Interns

The Cardinal Green Training series launched in 2012 to help Stanford staff and faculty live and work more sustainably on campus. The training courses provide a hands-on exploration of conservation measures and best practices at Stanford. 

Cardinal Green training courses are offered seasonally, in partnership with related Cardinal Green campaigns. Cardinal Green trainings can be found in the STARS Learning Center via AXESS. Or, refer below for links to specific training modules.

Training Modules

If you have a group of ten or more, we can schedule a custom training of any module for your group. NEW virtual sessions are also available, contact the Office of Sustainability to set up the details. 

  • SEM-0001-WEB-Student Sustainability Waste Sorting Training (web-based - Start Now)
    The purpose of this module is to teach you how to correctly sort your waste at Stanford and introduce you to resources on campus to reduce your waste footprint.
     
  • SST 1000-Sustainable Office Spaces 
    This session provides a hands-on demonstration of ways to reduce energy consumption in your workplace and encourage greater resource conservation. The class focuses on strategies for individual workspaces that can be implemented building-wide for maximum savings.
     
  • SST 2000-Best Practices in Waste Reduction
    This class focuses on how you can reduce your waste impact. Learn about waste reduction opportunities through the five Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle, rot, rebuy) to help you jumpstart improvements in your workplace and better understand Stanford resources. 
     
  • SST 3000-Sustainable Stanford Overview (web-based - Start Now)
    This self-paced online training provides an overview of Stanford's conservation efforts across our main key performance indicator categories, and includes key actions that individuals can take to contribute to sustainability. Featuring interactive sections to test your knowledge, it provides a high level overview of sustainability at Stanford.
     
  • Best Practices in Sustainable Events
    Stanford has more than 7,000 events on campus every year, ranging in size and scale from small departmental meetings to campus-wide celebrations, the environmental impact of these occasions can be substantial. Learn key strategies to reduce the environmental footprint of your event, conserving resources (and money!). 
     
  • Best Practices in Sustainable Labs
    Laboratories are some of the highest energy consuming spaces on campus, and have a number of unique circumstances when it comes to waste minimization and water consumption, too. Learn about ways that you can make your lab space more sustainable, as well as a variety of resources available to you to help you on your path.
