✨ Scope 1 & 2 emissions have been reduced by 80% ✨

Stanford University's proactive efforts in emissions mitigation have earned it global recognition as a climate leader. Stanford Energy System Innovations (SESI), which includes the university's renewable electricity portfolio, enables the campus to recognize an 80% reduction in scope 1 & 2 greenhouse gas emissions. Now, in response to the increasing impacts of climate change, Stanford is developing a comprehensive Climate Action Plan aimed at further reducing emissions across all scopes (1, 2, and 3) and enhancing climate adaptation and resilience.

Climate Action Planning

The update to the Climate Action Plan is being collaboratively developed by subject matter experts across campus who are leading working groups to propose climate action strategies.

Emissions Mitigation

Understanding and taking inventory of the different scopes of greenhouse gas emissions are the first steps Stanford has taken to develop an effective climate plan for emissions management.

Adaptation & Resilience

Through a comprehensive vulnerability assessment to address risks, the institution has been preparing to respond, as well as prepare and recover, from adverse impacts of the planet's changed climate.
