How to Order Event Bins

Peninsula Sanitary Service Inc. (PSSI) delivers recycling, compost, and landfill bins for campus events for a fee. 

A standard event bin setup consists of three, 32-gallon Rubbermaid Brute bins with color-coded lids for the following waste streams:

  • Recycle: plastics, metal, glass, paper & cardboard
  • Compost: food scraps, paper towels, and compostable foodware (items labeled “compostable”, napkins, paper plates, and pizza boxes.) 
  • Landfill: plastic cutlery, chips bags, and snack wrappers

To order bins, submit a Customer Funded work request at least three days before your event. A rush fee may be charged for same day service requests.

Standard Bin Placement

The campus standard is to place recycling, compost, and landfill bins together (from left to right) to provide equal access to all three streams. 

This helps reduce waste, increase recycling and composting, and helps achieve Stanford's zero waste by 2030 goal.

Delivery & Return of Bins

  • Ensure bins are used properly throughout the event. Event hosts will incur a charge for the full replacement cost of lost, damaged, or otherwise altered bins and/or lids.
  • Extra bags of recyclables, compostables, or trash left on the ground will be charged as an extra bin of that material type.
  • Delivery and removal of bins will be between 7am-5pm Monday-Friday and 9am-5pm on Saturday. Deliveries for Sunday events will occur on Saturday and collection will occur on the following Monday.
