Over 5,000 Items Diverted from Landfill Through ReUse Program

Stanford's ReUse site helps reduce waste, support sustainability, and provide gently used items to the community.

Looking to get rid of unwanted furniture, electronics, supplies, and equipment? Looking to spruce up your space, but don’t want to spend hundreds? Look no further than Stanford’s ReUse site, and contribute to our university’s sustainability initiatives: https://reuse.stanford.edu/apex/f?p=330:15:2822931656038

Stanford’s ReUse Site is the place to go for donating unwanted furniture and equipment or obtaining gently used items. Stanford’s Surplus Property program benefits the Stanford community and beyond by coordinating the reuse of excess university property, such as furniture, electronics, supplies, vehicles, and more. Participation in the reuse program is easy – just log in to the website with your SUNet ID to post your donation or claim a new-to-you item.

This is an infographic showing the impact of the furniture reuse program for the fiscal year 2024.

Thanks to the Stanford community, the program kept 5,213 items out of the landfill during Fiscal Year 2023-24, preventing over 450 metric tons of carbon dioxide- the equivalent of over 50,000 gallons of gasoline!  Approximately 54% of the items were reused within Stanford and 43% were sold or donated to the local community.

Next time you have unwanted Stanford property or are looking to purchase furniture, electronics, equipment, or more, check out Stanford’s ReUse Site!
