Health is Wealth, Not Waste!

At the Stanford Center for Continuing Medical Education (CME), directors Kurt Snyder and Mary Sisney are doing their part to make sure that while educating the world’s medical providers and physicians, they are also promoting sustainable behaviors in teaching and practice.

CME is dedicated to advancing patient and population health by advancing the abilities and expertise of healthcare providers through a range of activities including conferences, workshops, simulations, seminars, live webcasts, and tools for self-directed learning. As Kurt described, CME is one of Stanford’s “best kept secrets” in that it is one of the largest event hosts at the university.

With large events come great responsibility, specifically for sustainability. Knowing this, Kurt, Mary, and their team worked together to design an infographic that depicts data from over 80 responses from other CME centers and medical schools throughout the region about their operations. It offers users helpful information on ways to reduce the carbon footprint of their events. Refusing to accept the status goal, Kurt and Mary have helped spread awareness about sustainable event planning within the medical education field.
