Stanford placed first among participating Pac-12 schools in the 2018-19 College and University Green Power Challenge, a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) program. Stanford’s on-campus solar PV panels and off-campus Solar Generating Station produced nearly 160 million kWh of renewable energy last year, enough to power more than 15,000 homes. This comprises 57% of Stanford’s electricity consumption. With a second solar generating station coming online in 2021, which will bring the university’s renewable portfolio to 100%, Stanford is well positioned to maintain its number one ranking.
