Shutting down for break surpasses $5 million in energy savings since 2001

Thursday, January 23, 2020

This year’s Cardinal Green Buildings campaign, orchestrated over the Thanksgiving holiday and Winter break, saved the university 1.5 million kilowatt-hours of electricity, the equivalent to taking 118 cars off the road for one year. By turning off heating and cooling systems and lights, unplugging appliances, and closing windows over the break, participating departments from 164 buildings were able to surpass $5 million in overall energy cost savings since this program began. A special thanks to all staff who diligently participated and to our partners in Sustainability & Energy Management and Buildings & Grounds Maintenance for their effort and dedication.
