New Stormwater Retention Area can be Explored Virtually

Stanford began operating a new stormwater capture system in January 2019. The fields at Sand Hill act not only as an area of recreation, but also as a giant stormwater detention basin to collect excess stormwater during rain events, rather than overwhelming the local creeks with runoff. Once the stormwater is collected, it is filtered and pumped to Felt Lake and later used as irrigation for campus. In CY19, these detention basins produced almost 9 million gallons of water. The fields at Sand HIll are just one of the many types of stormwater treatment facilities managed on campus, all of which can be explored in a virtual tour online. The tour offers the opportunity to learn about each of these facilities in detail.
