New Redwood City campus integrates sustainability into design and construction

Wednesday, September 13, 2017

Stanford’s Redwood City campus, projected to open in 2019, will serve as the new workplace for approximately 2,700 staff and will emphasize sustainability in building and landscaping design and operations, especially as applied to energy, water and air quality. Buildings on the new campus will reflect Stanford’s commitment to benchmarking through whole-building energy performance targets derived specifically for each new building coming online. Redwood City’s own recycled water program will be extended to reduce overall potable water use, and the new campus will have its own central energy facility modeled after the one on Stanford’s main campus, which will use an innovative heat recovery system and renewable energy to meet campus heating, cooling, and electricity needs.
