Local artist Michael Killen donated his latest project “Stanford’s Smart Energy Campus” to Stanford. The painting was inspired by the Stanford Energy System Innovations (SESI) project, which has transformed the campus energy supply from one based on fossil-fuels to an electric heat recovery system. SESI has also put the campus on track to reach its target of 80% carbon neutral by 2025.
The painting takes viewers on a journey through Stanford’s campus, illustrating the scale of the heating and cooling system and depicting SESI as the heart of campus. Killen’s painting encourages discussions about the climate challenges and solutions of our time and shows how art can serve as a catalyst for sustainability.
Killen’s painting was displayed at the 2019 Silicon Valley Energy Summit held at Stanford and is now on display at the Central Energy Facility. Learn More.
