Class of 2020 welcomed to campus with sustainability education

Wednesday, September 13, 2017

Sustainable Stanford partnered with organizations across campus to introduce incoming freshmen and transfers to Stanford's sustainability community during New Student Orientation (NSO). Hundreds of new students showed their support by pledging to Live Cardinal Green while on campus. To show how Stanford “walks the talk”, freshmen enjoyed a Zero Waste Lunch hosted by Residential and Dining Enterprises (R&DE), Peninsula Sanitary Services, Inc (PSSI), Office of Sustainability, and NSO. All freshman attending the lunch received a reusable water bottle from R&DE and learned about proper sorting from volunteers who manned all of the waste corrals, showing them to minimize waste during their time on campus. In addition to the Zero Waste Lunch, new students also had the opportunity to tour the Central Energy Facility and learn about the multitude of sustainability initiatives at Stanford.
