The Department of Athletics, Physical Education, and Recreation (DAPER) has nearly 30 showers within its Arrillaga Outdoor Education and Recreation Center (AOERC) facility alone, creating a significant opportunity for savings. In 2019-20, in partnership with the Water Planning and Stewardship team, DAPER initiated a pilot to try and better understand shower patterns in the AOERC. The study included testing the popularity of Nebia ultra-low-flow shower heads, understanding the relationship between low-flow shower heads and the length of the shower, and observing general facility use patterns. The study revealed that on average, showers were 5-7 minutes long, depending on the locker room.
