Celebrating Sustainability: A Resilient Future

This year marks the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, and the Stanford sustainability community is recognizing this momentous occasion by celebrating our progress, and envisioning our future. Stanford has an extensive history engaging with students, staff, and faculty to advance environmental sustainability progress locally and globally. From cutting-edge teaching and research, to innovative campus systems, Stanford leads by example in developing and implementing solutions for planetary health. Join us for a series of virtual opportunities aiming to inspire action and motivate innovation during this pivotal Earth Day milestone.

While we’re all adjusting to the global implications of COVID-19, it’s important to recognize how acting locally but thinking globally can have a positive impact on the world at large. We’ve updated our “50 Days of Action” calendar with small steps you can take to keep your home office environmentally friendly and other personal actions individuals can take to cultivate healthy habits during this time. Follow along and track your actions on this custom calendar. Download the calendar

Be sure to login to My Cardinal Green to earn points toward your reward for completing your actions.  If you complete more than half of the actions on the calendar you can earn 10 bonus points toward your $75 incentive. If you want to commit as a team, e-mail becardinalgreen@stanford.edu with the group names and complete 40 actions per team and everyone will get 10 bonus points.

Stanford has a thriving community of sustainability across all aspects of campus life, functioning as a living laboratory for students, staff, and faculty to engage with as we work to model sustainability solutions for the community. In light of COVID-19 and the EH&S and state-wide recommendations for the campus, we will have a series of virtual events throughout Earth Week that showcase our community and offer the opportunity to learn from and interact with sustainability programs.

All events are open to the public, but RSVP is requested.  You will receive a confirmation e-mail after you RSVP to confirm logistics as needed. If you have questions, please contact becardinalgreen@stanford.edu. To attend the Earth Day Future 50 Virtual Celebration on Monday, separate registration is required. Register for the Earth Day Future 50 Virtual Celebration here.
