The next greatest discovery

Lab Personnel

Main content start

Labs are where the greatest discoveries on campus happen, offering resources for questioning, experimentation, discussion, and collaboration. However, they are also some of the most resource-intensive spaces, making some of the largest contributions to waste and energy use. Explore some of the ways that Stanford is actively working to make labs more sustainable.

Engage with Lab Sustainability

The Interdepartmental Coalition for Lab Sustainability at Stanford (ICLSS) is a group of students, faculty, and staff from various departments working together to promote sustainable practices in labs across campus. Their mission is to reduce waste, conserve resources, and implement sustainable purchasing practices in our research environments.

Whether you're a seasoned environmentalist or just looking to learn more about sustainable lab practices, there’s a place for you in ICLSS!

The typical lab user can go through an online training module to learn about sustainable behavior around lab supply purchasing, chemical use, energy efficiency, proper waste disposal, water consumption, and more. The web-based course can be found in STARS under course number SST-7000. If you have any feedback on the course, please reach out via our contact form.
