Your Purchase is Your Power

When it comes to purchasing, each member of the Stanford community has choices that can have a meaningful impact on the world. Choosing the types of goods and services that the university purchases, how they are packaged and delivered, and the types of suppliers to engage with are all powerful decisions. The Responsible Purchasing Guidelines summarize key steps to making more sustainable purchases, from electronics to labs and more.

Responsible Purchasing Guidelines

Buying from Amazon? Buy Sustainable Products

These sustainable product shopping lists, housed in Stanford's Amazon for Business iProcurement platform, focus on office and breakroom supplies.  Curated by the Office of Sustainability, the lists provide a select collection of items that meet the Responsible Purchasing Guidelines. Although they are not comprehensive of all products the meet the guidelines, they make purchasing sustainable products easy since they are intergrated into the Amazon for Business platform. To access the Sustainability lists, log in to Amazon for Business via Stanford’s Oracle iProcurement platform. Once logged in, copy and paste the links below into your browser’s URL bar:

Rediscover Reuse

Stanford has several programs to support the reuse of materials year round for bulky items like furniture through the ReUse program, excess chemicals from labs through the Surplus Chemical Program, and clothing and shoes through Recycle for Change Collection Boxes across campus.
